holistic farm, elite fleece, elite service.

Originally called West Wind Alpacas since 2000, we changed our name in 2008 due to the proliferation of other farms choosing to call themselves by the same name! White Lotus was selected for the calming and contemplative feel. White Lotus is also the name of a revolutionary Buddhist sect in China which had its beginnings as early as the 4th century. A wanna-be activist all my life, White Lotus was the perfect name for my farm!

White Lotus Alpacas pasture scene We began our own herd in 2000, after working on the family farm since 1997/98. Starting with one female, growth was slow and we're still small. We had only male crias until 2007! The herd will probably never exceed 20 in number. This allows hands on personalized care for each and every alpaca.

The goal at White Lotus is to breed conformationally sound and correct alpaca with elite fleece. Super low micron, high amplitude crimp, superior luster, and density.

We have some "Big Names" in our breeding program, some big names from the old days, some names that are popular right now... and some hopefully big names of tomorrow! Our breeding program does not chase the flavor of the month. We are committed to breeding alpacas with the finest fleece, high luster, and gorgeous crimp. However, impressive crimp is only important for winning ribbons. It does not truly indicate greater density or fineness. Crimp does not improve upon the final product in any way. We ARE chasing micron on this farm!

We feel that alpaca can rival vicuña in fineness, and we're working toward that end. Alpaca has longer staple and faster growth rate. We, as an industry, simply need to return to the vicuña genes that our alpacas carry, to increase density and decrease micron, and retain that longer staple and growth rate!

Please see our Farm Store for items made from our wonderful alpacas' fleeces. So far, we have some handspun yarns, and some of Sienna's millspun in a wonderful bulky two-ply. Felted rugs, blankets, and throws are a top priority. Hand woven scarves and yardage are on the to-do list. Of course we have raw fleece from any alpaca in the herd, and a lot more as well!
